AECOM Environment Helps Delta Air Lines Expand Award-Winning Recycling Programs

Atlanta, GA (Vocus) June 23, 2009 -- AECOM Environment (www.ensr.aecom.com) is working to support Delta Air Lines, Inc., in its expansion of its acclaimed recycling programs to include additional Delta stations as well as the potential to include other Delta subsidiaries. Delta is seeking to broaden its overall waste minimization efforts, decrease landfill waste, and decrease disposal costs.

In 2007, Delta became the first U.S. airline to launch a comprehensive in-flight recycling program by implementing recycling on all its domestic flights into Atlanta. AECOM Environment helped Delta to originally develop, implement, and train employees on the recycling program. As prime consultant to Delta's recycling efforts, AECOM Environment conducted a recycling feasibility study and waste stream audit for baseline data collection; developed metrics for Delta's corporate management; implemented policy and procedures for Delta employees, and helped build broad awareness and acceptance for the program by helping to provide employee outreach and training assistance.

Due to the in-flight recycling program's successes, Delta and AECOM Environment continued to work with one another to research and then maintain a cost-neutral carpet-recycling program, as well as assist in opening an Employee Recycling Center at Delta's global headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, where employees recycle materials (plastics, glass, paper, cardboard, tin and aluminum) from their homes. All three programs were recently recognized with the Atlanta Business Chronicle's "Green Save Award", which highlights outstanding and unique environmental conservation in the Atlanta area.
