Earth Day Celebrated by Turtle Wings
(Vocus) April 14, 2009 -- To help celebrate Earth Day, Turtle Wings Electronics Recycling (http://www.turtlewings.com) is participating in a number of electronics recycling events throughout the greater Washington DC and Baltimore areas. Turtle Wings has a no e-waste landfill policy and is committed to domestic recycling of electronics. The events take place over the next several weeks in areas ranging from Prince George’s County to Annapolis to Reston to Falls Church.
“More and more companies and agencies have turned to us to help them with their recycling events. In addition to the recycling events, we will be participating in Earth Day activities at the Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy and NIH” added Zack Boorstein, VP of Sales. “We have a seen a significant surge in our business despite the dismal economic conditions because we continue to focus on our core businesses of recycling and data destruction while providing a high level of customer service.”
“We have been awarded our second GSA contract for environmental services (http://www.turtlewings.com) which includes electronics recycling and have already completed a task order under that contract,” added Elizabeth Wilmot, President of Turtle Wings. “Turtle Wings is different from a lot of other recyclers because of the high standards that we maintain in terms of domestic recycling and absolute accountability. Having personally seen landfills in India which were full of obsolete computers, I vowed that Turtle Wings would be a globally responsible company.”
“Customers trust our services and rely on us to help them recycle responsibly. I recently spoke at an NPMA event along with representatives from the EPA. The EPA presentation clearly outlined the liabilities for a ‘generator’ of electronic waste who did not choose a legitimate recycler. The threshold for being considered a ‘generator’ was consistent with the volumes generated by a small office. The increased enforcements have driven a lot of new customers to us because they feel secure with our detailed policies and procedures and our audit trail,” added Ms. Wilmot.
Turtle Wings, a woman-owned, hub-zoned company, is the only electronics recycler in the country to hold two GSA contracts and to be certified by the Defense Logistics Information Services to store and transport military critical data. Data Killers, (http://www.datakillers.com) a trade name for Turtle Wings, offers complete data destruction services nationwide to corporations and government agencies including classified materials. The compliant destruction services include on-site degaussing, shredding and purging.
